3 Days Virunga Gorilla Trekking Safari from Kigali

Your adventure begins early in the morning when your driver-guide picks you up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport at approximately 6:00 AM.

Leaving Rwanda behind, you'll drive toward the Grande Barrière Border Post in Gisenyi, where our team will assist you through immigration formalities into the Democratic Republic of Congo. Once inside Goma, you'll proceed to the Virunga National Park Tourism Office for registration and collection of your gorilla trekking permit.

After completing the park formalities, you'll transfer in an official Virunga National Park vehicle to Kibumba Tented Camp, beautifully situated at the foothills of the Virunga Mountains.

Spend the remainder of the day relaxing while enjoying magnificent views of the surrounding volcanoes before dinner and your overnight stay.

Wake up early for breakfast before heading to the ranger station for a briefing by Virunga National Park guides.

The briefing covers gorilla trekking etiquette, safety guidelines, and conservation efforts before you are assigned a habituated gorilla family to visit.

Your trek begins through dense rainforest, bamboo forests, and volcanic terrain. Depending on where the gorillas spent the previous night, the hike may take anywhere between 1 and 5 hours.

The moment you encounter the gorillas is unforgettable. Watching them feed, groom, play, and interact with one another from a respectful distance is a deeply moving wildlife experience.

Visitors are allowed one hour with the gorillas under the supervision of park rangers before beginning the hike back.

Return to Kibumba Tented Camp for a late lunch.

The afternoon is yours to relax or participate in optional activities such as:

Bird watching
Nature walks
Community visits
Photography around the camp

Enjoy dinner and another peaceful night surrounded by the sounds of the forest.

After breakfast, you'll leave Kibumba Tented Camp and drive back to Goma.

Following border clearance at Grande Barrière, you'll cross back into Rwanda and continue your journey to Kigali.

Depending on your departure schedule, you can be dropped off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport, marking the end of an incredible gorilla trekking adventure.
